Sjamsoe’oed Sadjad telah merintis pengembangan ilmu dan teknologi benih di Indonesia. Sjamsoe’oed Sadjad lahir di Madiun, Jawa Timur, 24 Juni 1931. Setelah tamat dari SMA Budi Utomo Jakarta, ia mendaftarkan diri ke Universitas Indonesia dan lulus dengan gelar Insinyur pada Fakultas Pertanian. Ia melanjutkan studi di Mississippi State University dan lulus dengan gelar Master dalam Teknologi Benih.  Gelar Doktor diperoleh di Ilmu Pertanian dari IPB berdasar penelitian Teknologi Benih dan disertasinya pada tahun 1972.

Rintisannya tersebut ikut mengilhami sejumlah sarjana dan lembaga pertanian yang menggarap perbenihan dengan teknologi maju. Selama mengupayakan tumbuhnya industri benih modern Indonesia.
