Veronica Darwin : Meraih Karir Di Perbankan
Karir di perbankan sudah diminatinya semenjak masih duduk di bangku kuliah jurusan Manajemen Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Atmajaya Jakarta. Sekarang, karirnya pun menanjak sebagai Branch Manager Standard Chartered. Ia beralasan sampai kapanpun perbankan di butuhkan masyarakat dan cocok dengan jurusanya semasa kuliah untuk penerapan ilmunya.
Veronica mengawali karirnya selepas kuliah dengan bekerja di Citibank pada 1996. Selama dua tahun ia berkutat di dunia sales Funding Officer. setelah itu dirinya memutuskan berkarir di Bank American Express selama 5 tahundengan posisi akhir sebagai Senior Assistant manager.
Pada karirnya lima tahun terakhir ia pun mencoba mengambil tantangan sebagai Saleas Manager Bank Commonwealth di pluit. Setelah sempat kembali ke Citibank sebagai Citigold Head, ia akhirnya melabuh di standar Chartered.
Wanita kelahiran medan 18 januari 1973 yang sudah memiliki seorang anak ini pun menjelaskan tentang dunia perbankan di indonesia sekarang ini. Ia prihatin dengan kenaikan suku bunga akan mempengaruhi minta orang memiliki rumah lewat KPR (Kredit Pemilikan Rumah) tetapi ia yakin keadaan akan kembali normal dalam jangka waktu singkat.
Bagaimana Mengembangkan Karir di Perusahaan Multi Usaha?
Jika anda bekerja di sebuah perusahaan yang memiliki banyak produk atau jasa, tentu akan banyak pertanyaan yang timbul baik dari pengembangan usahanya dan juga bagaimana mengembangkan potensi atau karir anda di perusahaan tersebut. Coba simak beberapa tips berikut:
1. Tentukan dulu filosofi perusahaan, misalnya:
a. Apakah dasar atau kriteria bagi karyawan untuk naik jabatan (pergerakan vertikal) maupun pindah bagian (pergerakan horisontal) di dalam perusahaan? Kriteria ini bisa beragam, misalnya prestasi kerja, seberapa jauh karyawan memenuhi kebutuhan kompetensi dan kualifikasi (sertifikasi, tingkat pendidikan, pengalaman kerja) dari posisi tujuan, tersedianya posisi, kesamaan jenis usaha dll.
b. Tentukan apakah perpindahan bagian dapat dilakukan pada setiap tingkatan jabatan atau dibatasi, misalnya, hanya pada tingkat karyawan pemula/junior dan tingkat manajemen saja? Berapa kali dapat pindah bagian?
Beberapa organisasi membatasi pergerakan antar bagian hanya terjadi pada tingkat awal dan senior, sementara yang lain tidak membatasi. Dalam konteks perusahaan yang banyak ragam kegiatan usahanya seperti di atas, tentukan dulu sejauh mana perusahaan ingin memberikan ruang-gerak bagi karyawan dalam membangun karirnya di dalam organisasi. Bila sangat bebas terbuka, berarti perusahaan perlu membangun karyawan ‘generalis’, yang memiliki kompetensi untuk bekerja pada berbagai ragam kegiatan usaha. Sementara bila dibatasi, berarti perusahaan cenderung akan fokus membangun karyawan yang fokus pada bidang usahanya. Atau kombinasi di antara keduanya?
Pilihan model yang ada akan memberikan implikasi pada fleksibilitas karyawan dalam membangun karirnya, perencanaan tenaga-kerja maupun investasi perusahaan di dalam mengembangkan kemampuan karyawannya.
2. Bangun atau pengembangan karir jabatan-jabatan yang ada (career map) berdasarkan kriteria-kriteria yang telah ditetapkan. Untuk memberikan ruang lebih besar bagi karyawan dalam membangun karirnya di dalam organisasi, beberapa organisasi membangun apa yang disebut dengan dual-career atau multiple-career track(s), yaitu jalur karir manajerial (struktural) dan jalur karir non-manajerial (spesialis).
Jalur karir non-manajerial/spesialis dibangun untuk memfasilitasi pengembangan karir bagi karyawan yang tidak tertarik menduduki jabatan manajerial — tidak semua orang ingin menjadi manajer, ada yang bahagia menjadi spesialis di dalam disiplin ilmu tertentu. Karena membangun peta karir relatif membutuhkan waktu yang tidak sedikit, fokuskan pembuatan career map pada posisi-posisi yang relatif penting (kritikal) di dalam organisasi.
3. Bangun SOP (standard operating procedure) termasuk alat-alat tes yang diperlukan untuk membantu karyawan mengetahui bagaimana mereka dapat mengembangkan karirnya di dalam organisasi. Langkah-langkah atau proses apa yang harus dilalui? Misalnya, bagaimana seorang yang baru bekerja dapat menjadi pemimpin divisi/departemen dalam beberapa tahun ke depan? Persyaratan maupun tes-tes apakah yang harus dipenuhi dll. Bagaimana jika seorang pegawai mendapatkan hasil penilaian kinerja yang memuaskan selama 3 tahun berturut-turut? Kemana, kapan, bagaimana dan oleh siapa ia dapat dipromosikan?
4. Perbaiki terus-menerus model yang telah dibangun berdasarkan hasil implementasinya di lapangan dan kebutuhan organisasi, termasuk bila ada perubahan struktur dan strategi perusahaan.
Karena administrasi sistem pengembangan karir itu membutuhkan waktu yang tidak sedikit, persiapkan infrastruktur/teknologi pendukung agar sistem dapat diimplementasikan dengan efisien dan efektif.
Beberapa Hal Sebelum Wawancara Pekerjaan
Tujuan dari sebuah interview rekrutmen adalah menemukan kandidat yang cocok untuk kebutuhan sebuah posisi. Oleh karena itu coba kenali posisi yang anda sasar, karena dengan demikian anda akan lebih siap menghadapi interview apapun.
Tidak ada gunanya menjadi orang lain. Kalau tidak suka suasana high competitive di dunia penjualan, tidak usah menyasar posisi sales. Kalau tidak suka berhubungan dengan orang, jangan menyasar posisi yang membutuhkan orang lain untuk keberhasilan kinerja. Menjadi diri sendiri, akan meningkatkan rasa percaya diri. Rasa percaya diri yang tinggi, akan mengurangi grogi, menambah vitalitas, dan yang terpenting, membantu si interviewer menyelesaikan tugasnya yaitu menemukan kandidat yang paling tepat. Namun karena interviewer juga manusia, punya hati-punya rasa, maka tidak menutup kemungkinan subjectivitas interviewer akan mempengaruhi hasil report candidate review; maka setelah benar-benar- benar mengetahui kemauan diri atas posisi yang akan disasar, perlu untuk mematut-matut diri dan melakukan persiapan yang matang sebelum interview.
And the last, jaga kebersihan mulut dan tenggorokan anda sebelum interview. Karena meski hal itu terlihat sepele namun hal tersebut akan menambah nilai plus dan percaya diri bagi anda.
